CONFIRMED: Newcastle United sign Christian Atsu from Chelsea on permanent basis

24 May

Christian Atsu has joined Newcastle United from Chelsea on a permanent basis.

The Ghanaian winger spent the entire 2016/17 season on loan at St James’ Park, playing a key role as the Magpies sealed promotion to the Premier League.

Atsu made 32 appearances for Rafa Benitez’s side, scoring five times.

Newcastle had an option to sign the 25-year-old for an undisclosed fee – understood to be around £6million – and have now taken that up with Atsu penning a four-year contract.

“We are happy to sign a good player,” said boss Benitez.

“He’s shown us that he’s a good professional and someone who is very keen to learn and improve.

“Christian has been a key part of our promotion campaign and he wants to help us to build something for the future.”
